Group: Rudimental Case Study



Rudimental - Waiting all night ft. Ella Eyre

  • Fast cutting rate
  • Camera movement - POV shots on bike, handheld and fish eye lens, constant movement
  • Rule of thirds
  • location -  urban, high colour contrast
  • No preformance - fourth wall
  • natural lighting, youth style

Rudimental - Not Giving In ft. John Newman & Alex Clare

  • Slow motion throughout
  • extreme long shot of location - build up
  • rule of thirds
  • Constant camera movemnt
  • Cutting rate matches tempo
  • Different colours - two lines of action
  • Lighting - Dark for gang line of action and bright for dance line of action
  • lighting and coulour shows time passing
  • Ideas of different lifestyles/poverty/street lifestyle/choice/dance/values/friendship/coming from nothing





Rudimental - Feel the Love ft. John Newman

  • Constant camera movement
  • visually interesting
  • rule of thirds
  • Long shots
  • Close ups of kids
  • Paradox - Authenticity. ordinary yet extraordinary
  • Ideas of working class/achievement/positivity/friendship/unexpected


    All the Rudimental videos have themes and ideas in common such as the urban location, sense of hope, starting from the bottom, achievement and friendship which builds up the meta-narrative of the artist and the ideologies they want to present to their audience.
    There are also similarities in the filming style with the constant movement of the camera and numerous panning and tracking shots and the use of a handicam.
